A Cortland, Neb., native and graduate of Norris High School, Scott Kohout finished his career at Peru State as one of the best pitchers in history and is still. This came at a time in Bobcat baseball when the team had to fill the schedule with all levels of teams as they were not a member of a conference.

Kohout was a three-time NAIA all-district honorable mention selection and was twice selected as the Bobcats’ top pitcher of the year. In 1993, he was named NAIA District XI Pitcher of the Week for two consecutive weeks.

He is still the Bobcats’ career leader in wins with 25 and is second in three different career categories – strikeouts with 230, innings pitched with 231.1, and complete games with 20. In addition, he is tied for second in career games started with 34, sixth with an earned run average of 3.21, and tied for sixth in career appearances with 46. Kohout is still tied for fourth in single-season strikeouts with 75.

After his career at Peru State, Kohout was invited to numerous professional tryouts. While a member of the Erie (Pa.) Sailors of the Frontier League – an Independent Class A franchise, the team won the league championship in 1994.
