Hall of Fame
Ray Ehlers is inducted into the Peru State Hall of Fame not just based on his athletic abilities displayed while at Peru State, but also for his contributions to athletics after his graduation from the College.
Ehlers was a four-year starter on both the offense and defense for the Bobcat football team and played basketball for three years. After his playing career, Ehlers was awarded the Bert E. Swenson Award.
After graduating from Peru State, Ehlers taught and coached in Fullerton, Blair, and Lexington. He was the athletic director at Lexington for nearly three decades with the stadium eventually being named after him.
In 1979, Ehlers was selected as the Nebraska High School Athletic Director of the Year and in 1995, he was named as the National Athletic Director of the Year by the National Coaches of the Year.
Later, in 2009, Ehlers was inducted into the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame.
