A 1986 graduate, Jeff George was selected because of being an outstanding two-sport athlete at Peru State College in football and in track and field.
On the gridiron, George was and still is one of the Bobcats’ best running backs. He was just the second running back to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season. George finished with 1,103 yards in 1984 which is still seventh on the career charts as of today.
At the time of his graduation, he was second in single season touchdowns and total career rushing. His 12 rushing touchdowns is presently tied for fourth while his 2,220 career yards still sits fourth today. George is also still tied for most kickoff returns in a game with six.
On the track, George set indoor and outdoor records at 55 meters, 60 yards, 100 meters, 300 meters, 4 x 100 relay, 4 x 400 relay, and the sprint medley relay. He competed twice at the NAIA National Indoor Championships and once at the NAIA National Outdoor Championship.
During his track career, George was the only Bobcat runner to score in every meet in which he competed.
