Chester “Chet” Kober came to Peru in the late 1920s when the Bobcats were dominant in small college athletic circles. He quickly established himself as an outstanding basketball player and went on to letter all four years in the sport. Korber, a high school star at Deshler, Neb., also starred on some powerful Bobcat track teams and helped Peru State to conference championships in both sports. Popular on campus and active in numerous student groups, Korber graduated in 1932. He went on the distinguished career teaching and coaching in Nebraska, Colorado, and California.
