Hall of Fame
When Bert Swenson graduated in 1909 the Peru yearbook called him “the best all-around man that the (college) has ever put out.”
Tall and strong Swenson excelled in football, basketball, and baseball in an era when opponents ranged from area high schools to the University of Nebraska. He and his wife Stella established the Swenson Medal in 1925 in memory of a son who died in infancy. The award honors Peru State athletes who excel in sports academically and in citizenship.
Swenson dedicated much of his career to developing an award-winning recreation program in Stockton, Calif. He died in 1963.
