Orivell ‘AB’ Yocum came to Peru State Colege from Humboldt, Neb. He left in 1943 to serve in the Navy during World War II and returned to finish his degree in 1948.
Yocum was All-Conference in football, basketball, and track in an era when Peru State was a perennial power in each sport. He won the vaunted Drake Relays discus championship in his senior year.
Many Illinois student-athletes were recruited to Peru by ‘AB’ and he actually drove some of them to campus himself. Several became outstanding student-athletes themselves.
