Ollie Mayfield, PSC Class of 1950 was one of the greatest high school football coaches in Arizona history. Mayfield began in Nebraska where he was Coach of the Year in 1953. In 10 seasons at Tucson High beginning in 1968, he logged 81 wins and two state titles. The Louisville, Neb., native next guided perennial loser Sabino High to the playoffs in each of his three seasons there. Mayfield was Arizona Coach of the Year in 1970 and ’71. Arizona Coach of the decades for the 1970s and was inducted into the Arizona Coaches Hall of Fame in 1984.
