Though only eight years of his colorful career were spent at Peru, Ernest “Dutch” Lorbeer was a popular and successful basketball coach from 1928 to 36. Lorbeer led the Bobcats to a 71 - 57 record and three conference titles and served as an instructor and assistant football coach. He devoted his life to professional baseball during his early coaching days in the mid-1920s. He retired following stints as a player, manager, scout, and club president, spending time with the Tigers, Yankees, and Cardinals organizations. Lorbeer passed away in 1985.
