Burdette “Bo” Cowel was a prominent track and field and football performer at Peru during the early 1930’s. He guided three straight Bobcat track squads to conference titles (1932-34)- winning no less than five individual events himself- and later tried out for the U.S Olympic team in the long jump. On the gridiron, Cowel was a two-time All-Conference end. He taught and coached 25 rewarding years before retiring in 1972 from Colorado State University, which bears an athletic facility in his name.
