Mick Haney, a McCook (NE) High School graduate and an NCAA Division I recruit, eventually found his way to Peru State College with two seasons of remaining eligibility. What Haney accomplished in those two seasons ( 1980 & 81) is very remarkable.
In a time when passing the ball was not a major portion of the game plan, Haney set several single-season and career record marks. Three of his marks still stand. Haney maintains the single-season record for highest completion percentage, career passing most yards gained per attempt, and career highest percentage for touchdowns.
