Hall of Fame
Maxine Mehus is being inducted into the Peru State College Athletic Hall of Fame after having served the institution at one time as its volleyball and softball coach. In addition, Mehus served a stint as the athletic director.
To this day, Mehus is the longest-serving volleyball head coach in Bobcat history and compiled a record of 161-117-18 (.544%). Her 161 wins is tied for the most career wins in Peru State history. Mehus is the second-longest tenured softball coach compiling a record of 120-147 (.449%). The 120 wins by a coach are the second-most all-time.
In addition, Mehus was the first female collegiate athletic director in the state of Nebraska – a role she had for four years. During that time, Mehus worked to bring one of the earliest forms of drug testing to Peru State College. Also, she had to maintain an athletic department during some tough financial times.
Following her time at Peru State, Mehus continued her successful volleyball and softball career at Emporia State University where she compiled excellent career totals.
In 2018, Mehus was inducted into the Mayville State University’s Hall of Fame.
