Bobcat athletic director Steve Schneider announced on Monday that Peru State volleyball player Nadja Janjevic (Podgorica, Montenegro) and football player Collin Weingaertner (Omaha) were selected as the September Athletes of the Month. They were picked based on their athletic efforts during the month of September.
Janjevic was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) Attacker of the Week on Sept. 26. The 6-0 sophomore averaged 2.27 kills per set while taking only 3.45 attempts per set. In Peru State’s upset win over then #11 Grand View (Iowa), Janjevic had 11 kills in 21 attempts. In the other two matches that week, she added seven kills in each. In addition, Janjevic finished the week with three solo blocks and nine block assists.
Currently, Janjevic is sixth in the NAIA individual rankings with 97 total blocks. In the Heart she is second in total blocks, fourth in blocks per set (1.0), and tied for 15th in total service aces with 22.
Schneider commented, “Nadja and Collin both have had good starts to their seasons and have helped their respective teams to get off to good starts this fall.”
