Peru State athletic director Steve Schneider announced on Friday that junior softball player Halle Holloway (Waco) and junior baseball player Mark McGinnity (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) were selected as the June Bobcat Student-Athletes of the Month.
Also gaining honorable mention recognition in the Omaha paper, McGinnity added to his list of honors for the 2016 season. He had previously been named to the Heart of America Athletic Conference honorable mention list. McGinnity also was second on his team with a batting average of .380. He had 70 hits, 43 runs, 14 doubles, one triple, and seven home runs. He drove in 48 RBIs and stole one base. McGinnity finished in 15 Heart Top 20 categories with his batting average being the best at sixth. He also earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors recently as he became just the third Bobcat in recent years to gain the recognition.
“Halle and Mark are representative of what true student-athletes should be about. Both have had success in the classroom, as well as, in athletics,” noted Schneider. Concluding, he added, “We wish Halle the best and look forward to having Mark back next year.”
