Bobcat athletic director Steve Schneider recently announced that Peru State volleyball player Cristina Viera (Montevideo, Uruguay) and football player Jacob Coughlin (Omaha) were selected as the November Athletes of the Month. They were picked based on their athletic efforts during the past month.
Viera was named to the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) First Team following an outstanding season. In addition, she was named as the Heart’s Libero of the Year.
Viera led the conference with a total of 897 digs and was second in the Heart averaging 5.9 digs per set. She was fifth in the conference with 48 service aces and was ninth in the Heart averaging 0.3 service aces per set. Nationally, Viera is presently third in the NAIA with 897 digs, ninth with 5.940 digs per set, and 49th in total services aces with 48. With her 897 digs, Viera became the Bobcats' single-season digs leader.
Schneider commented, “Cristina has been one of the main keys for the successful volleyball team. Jacob came through for the football team in some key moments. Congratulations to both of them on their selections as November athletes of the month.”
