Better late than never …. And especially since the month of February was missed.
Bobcat athletic director Steve Schneider recently announced that Peru State softball player Tyler Farrell (Brandon, Fla.) and baseball player Alberto Rosario (Carolina, Puerto Rico) were selected as the March Athletes of the Month. They were picked based on their athletic efforts during the past month.
Both Farrell and Rosario earned Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) Player honors.
Like Farrell, Rosario earned his honor for his efforts the week of March 6, but was named the Heart’s Pitcher of the Week.
Rosario pitched a no-hitter in his first conference outing on the road against Avila (Mo.) to lead the Bobcats to an 8-0 win. He threw seven complete innings and only walked two batter while striking out six.
He presently leads the team with a 3.06 earned run average and is averaging 9.19 strikeouts per contest with 48 total so far this season. Rosario is currently 27th in the NAIA with 18 total runs allowed and is 46th with 40 total hits allowed.
Schneider commented, “As Tyler and Alberto each were recognized by the conference, they were easy selections. Congratulations to both of them on their picks as March athletes of the month.”
