Bobcat athletic director Steve Schneider recently announced that Peru State volleyball player Yorgelys Jaspe (San Carlos, Venezuela) and football player Brandon Fletcher (Maxwell) were selected as the October Athletes of the Month. They were picked based on their athletic efforts during the past month.
Fletcher was selected as the male athlete of the month for his consistency on the defensive side of the ball in October. Against Baker (Kan.), he had eight tackles – four solo. Against William Penn (Iowa), he had five tackles – one solo. Against Grand View, Fletcher again had eight tackles – four solo. Last week, he had seven tackles – three solo. In addition, in each of the last two games, Fletcher recovered a fumble.
Through nine games, Fletcher is fourth on the team with 45 total tackles – 23 of which are solo which is actually second on the team. He’s had one interception which he returned for 39 yards and has recovered three fumbles.
Schneider commented, “Yorgelys has been one of the main parts for the successful volleyball team and Brandon has stepped up as a senior and is among the leaders on the Bobcat defense. Congratulations to both of them on their selections as October athletes of the month.”
