Bobcat athletic director Steve Schneider recently announced that Peru State women’s basketball player Deandra Williams (Rosenberg, Texas) and men’s basketball player Rashad Brackeen (Oakland, Calif.) were selected as the January Athletes of the Month. They were picked based on their athletic efforts during the past month.
Williams was one of the main reasons the Bobcat women’s team broke an eight-game losing streak to end the month of January. She had 20 points and 15 rebounds in a win over the defending national champions – MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) and then followed up with 16 points and nine boards in a win over Culver-Stockton (Mo.).
In January, Williams moved up to become the team’s leading scorer. Through 23 games, Williams is the averaging 11.70 points per contest while making a respectable 46.6% of her field goal attempts. In addition, Williams is the team’s leading rebounder grabbing 7.96 boards per contest and is blocking 0.39 shots per game. Presently, Williams is 26th in NAIA DI with 6.087 defensive rebounds per game and is also 33rd with 183 total rebounds. In addition, she is 39th in field goal percentage and is 49th with 7.957 rebounds per game.
Schneider commented, “Both Deandra and Rashad have helped lead their teams to their respective wins this month. Congratulations to both of them on their selections as January athletes of the month.”
