(Peru, Neb.) – Bobcat women’s golfer Hannah Baldacci (Norfolk) and baseball player Bryan Ventura Castro (Carolina, Puerto Rico) were recently named by Peru State interim athletic director Wayne Albury as the May Bobcat Athletes of the Month. They were identified by Albury for the honor based on their recent athletic accomplishments for their respective teams.
 
Ventura Castro was one of just two Bobcats to be named to the Heart’s All-Conference First Team at the conclusion of the regular season. The senior outfielder was among the Heart’s leaders in numerous categories including (NOTE: rankings were before the end of the entire season): tied for first in total triples (8), second in hits per game (1.46), second in runs batted in per game (1.14), second in triples per game (0.16), third in batting average (.406), third in total runs batted in (57), fourth in total hits (73), fourth in total bases per game (2.34), fifth in runs scored per game (0.96), fifth in total bases (117), fifth in stolen bases per game (0.46), sixth in slugging percentage (.650), sixth in runs scored (48), sixth in stolen bases (23), seventh in steal attempts per game (0.50), seventh in total steal attempts (25), seventh in at bats per game (3.60), ninth in total at bats (180), ninth in on base percentage (.458), tied for 15th in total home runs (6), and 18th in home runs per game (0.12).
 
At the end of his career, Ventura Castro finds himself in several Peru State baseball records. He is tied for first in triples (6), tied for fifth in RBI (57), eighth in hits (73), and ninth in stolen bases (23). In addition, Ventura Castro has the new school record for triples in a career with 15 in just two seasons. He will also finish as 12th in career batting average at .368.
 
In announcing his May selections, Albury noted “With their efforts on the golf course and on the baseball diamond, Hannah and Bryan are good choices for the May Peru State Athletes of the Month.”
