Peru State athletic director Steve Schneider announced that Bobcat volleyball player Cristina Viera (Montevideo, Uruguay) and football player A.J. Flodman (Hickman) were selected as the September Athletes of the Month. They were picked based on their efforts and/or honors earned during the past month.
Flodman, a senior wide receiver and kick returner was named the Heart’s Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 25 for his efforts in Peru State’s win over then 22nd-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.). He accumulated 121 total kick returns yards which included two punt returns totally 45 yards. Flodman also had three kick-off returns for a total of 76 yards. He also caught one pass for eight yards. As of Oct. 2, Flodman is fifth in the NAIA in total punt return yards with 141 and is sixth in punt return yards per attempt at 15.70.
In announcing his September selections, Schneider noted both Viera’s and Flodman’s Heart honors. He stated, “With a conference as large as the Heart and as competitive as it is, for any student-athlete to earn a weekly honor that is an accomplishment. Therefore, congrats to Cristina and A.J. for being named as the September honorees.”
