Bobcat athletic director Steve Schneider recently announced that Peru State softball player Rachel Carlos (Kaneohe, Hawaii) and baseball player Alberto Rosario (Carolina, Puerto Rico) were selected as the May Athletes of the Month. They were picked based on their athletic efforts during the past month.
This is Rosario’s second-straight athlete of the month honor.
Both Carlos and Rosario earned Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) First Team recognition.
Rosario earned his honor as he was the lone Bobcat baseball player to be named to the Heart’s First Team All-Conference.
At the time of the all-conference selections, Rosario led the Bobcats with a 3.48 earned run average and averaged 10.45 strikeouts per nine innings. In the conference, Rosario was tied for first in total hits allowed (53), second in batters stuck out per game, tied for second in total runs allowed (28), tied for second in earned runs allowed (24), tied for fourth in opponent batting average (.228), fifth in hits allowed per game (7.69), tied for fifth in batters stuck out (72), seventh in earned run average, tied for 13th in total walks (21), tied for 14th in total wins (6), and 17th in walks allowed per game (3.05). Nationally, Rosario was 50th in total hits allowed and 50th in total runs allowed.
Schneider commented, “Rachel and Alberto are good choices for the May Peru State Athletes of the Month – especially because of their recognition of making all-conference first team. And hats off to Rachel for earning all-region first team honors as well.”
