(Peru, Neb.) – Bobcat athletic director Steve Schneider recently announced that Peru State softball player Alexis Paulo-Meyers (Aiea, Hawaii) and men’s basketball player Rashad Brackeen (Oakland, Calif.) were selected as the June Athletes of the Month. They were picked based on their athletic honors earned during the past month.
Paulo-Meyers was named to both the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association (NFCA) NAIA All-America First Team and to the Omaha World-Herald NAIA All-Nebraska First Team. Brackeen was one of eight college or university players in the state to be considered for the Omaha World-Herald Midlands College Male Athlete of the Year.
At the end of the regular season, Paulo-Meyers was a junior shortstop who hit .440 with 18 home runs and had a .915 slugging percentage. She ranked third in home runs per game (0.383), fourth in slugging, sixth in total base per game (2.745) and sixth in long balls.
Schneider commented, “Alexis and Rashad are good choices for the June Peru State Athletes of the Month – especially because of their recognition they received during the month.”
