Peru State athletic director Steve Schneider announced that Bobcat women’s basketball player Abigail Niebrugge (Omaha) and Bobcat men’s basketball player Quantice Hunter (Chicago) were selected as the November Athletes of the Month. They were picked based on their respective selections as Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) Basketball Player of Week.
The senior guard, Niebrugge led the Bobcats to two wins to open the 2017-18 season which led her to her honor. The 5-7 player from Omaha Central High School averaged 21.0 points per game while shooting 51.9% from the floor which included making three of eight from long range. Niebrugge also made 11 of 12 free throws for 91.7% in the first two wins.
Presently, Niebrugge leads the team in four of five statistical categories: points per game – 15.00, rebounds per game – 5.50, steals per game – 1.75, and blocks per game – 0.63. She is listed in two NAIA Top Individual Rankings – 12th in free throw percentage at 88.6% and 50th in points per game.
In announcing his November selections, Schneider noted “Being selected as a Heart player of the week is an honor for anyone especially since the conference is very large. Thus, Abby and Quantice are excellent Bobcat representatives for the month of November.”
