Peru State athletic director Steve Schneider announced that Bobcat volleyball player Cristina Viera (Montevideo, Uruguay) and six members of the Bobcat offensive line were selected as the October Athletes of the Month. They were picked based on their efforts and/or honors earned during the past month.
Â
The six linemen identified by Schneider were Hayden Krautner (Port Richey, Fla.), Mason McCann (Omaha), Chase Latscha (Olathe, Kan.), Nick Lectenberg (Papillion), Christian Vinsky (Murrieta, Calif.), and Quentin King (Omaha). Schneider was quick to note as well that all of the members of the offensive line are key to the success as they not only play, but push the aforementioned six to be better each day.
The offensive line has been key to some high-producing outputs during the month of October which saw the Bobcat football team go 3-1 to improve their overall mark to 7-3 and 3-1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference North Division.
Â
The line is key to having some of the top team statistics in the NAIA this season. The top offensive rankings include: second in sacks against (0.900), fourth in total rushing offense (2664), fifth in pass efficiency (170.800), sixth in rushing offense per game (266.400), sixth in total sacks against (9.00), 11th in fourth down conversion (60.900), 21st in total scoring offense (337), 27th in scoring offense per game (33.70), 29th in third down conversion (42.100), 34th in first downs per game (21.400), and 40th in total offense yards per game (391.200).
Â
In last Saturday’s game, the Bobcats rolled up a total of 499 yards of offense, including 260 on the ground, in the 47-42 win over Culver-Stockton. In the 55-34 win over Graceland for Homecoming, the ‘Cats had 604 total yards – 467 of which was rushing.
In announcing his October selections, Schneider noted Viera was selected because of her Heart honors. In addition, he noted that a lot of times, the offensive line does not get the recognition it deserves.Â
