(Peru, Neb.) – Bobcat golf junior Emily Whipple (Lincoln) and Bobcat men’s basketball senior LJ Westbrook (Salem, Ore.) were recently named by Peru State interim athletic director Steve Schneider as the January Bobcat Athletes of the Month. Whipple and Westbrook were identified by Schneider for the honor based on their recent academic and athletic honors respectively.
Most recently, Whipple was awarded the Larry Lady Academic Scholarship from the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart). This award was presented to Peru State and ultimately to Whipple as the Bobcat women’s teams had the highest cumulative grade point average in the Heart during the 2015-16 year.
During her fall golf season, Whipple finished 12th overall after shooting 93 and 88 for a two-day total of 181 playing as an individual.
In addition, Whipple was recognized earlier this month as she was named to the fall 2017 semester Dean’s List. As of now, Whipple has maintained a 4.0 gpa over the course of her five semesters as a Bobcat.
In announcing his January selections, Schneider noted “Both Emily and LJ are truly deserving of the monthly recognition for what they have contributed to both of their respective programs over their years in Bobcat uniforms.”
