(Peru, Neb.) – Peru State athletic director Wayne Albury recently announced that softball player Alana Krieser (Lincoln, Neb.) and baseball player Louis Landaeta (Porlamar, Venezuela) were selected as May’s Bobcat Athletes of the Month.
Each player was the highest honoree from their respective teams. Krieser, the junior pitcher, was named to the Heart of America Athletic Conference’s (Heart) honorable mention list and also earned the Heart’s Gold Glove Team award for being the best defensive pitcher.
Krieser started 24 games and had 16 complete contests which included three shutouts. Krieser threw 141.1 innings allowing 154 hits, 91 runs – 68 of which were earned. She walked 61 batters while striking out 86. Opponents batted .274 against her.
In the Heart, Krieser was ranked in the following Top 20 individual categories: fourth in innings pitched per game (5.89), sixth in innings pitched (141.1), eighth in wins (12), tied for eighth in saves (1), tenth in batters struck out (86), fourteenth in earned run average (3.37), sixteenth in opponent batting average (0.274), and sixteenth in hits allowed per game (7.63).
“Both Krieser and Landaeta were outstanding athletes for their teams, earning them Heart honors which they both deserved,” commented Albury.
