The September Peru State athletes of the month are Julia Zurek (Louisville) and Travis Reed (Hickman).
Athletic Director Wayne Albury recently announced his decision. He noted that both Zurek and Reed have been key leaders on their respective teams.
A senior, Zurek, recently crowned as Peru State’s 2019 homecoming queen, has led the Bobcat cross country team in every race in her team has competed so far this season.
In the first meet of the season, Zurek finished 24th in the Northwest Missouri Bearcat Invite in a time of 23:20.61. This was 73 seconds faster than the time she had run the previous year. Two weeks later, Zurek was the Bobcats’ top runner as she finished 60th in the Bronco Stampede in a time of 22:39.62 which was over 40 seconds faster than the time she had run two weeks prior. This past Friday, Zurek ran a personal best of 22:14.31 in the Wildcat Open hosted by Wayne State.
Zurek’s goal is to break the 21-minute mark by the end of the season.
Athletic director Albury noted, “Julia and Travis have proven to be leaders on their respective teams by letting their actions on the course and on the field prove their efforts.”
