(Peru, Neb.) – After leading their respective teams during the month of April, Taylor Finke (Battle Creek) and Eddy Tavarez Cabrera (San Cristobel, D.R.) were named by Peru State athletic director Wayne Albury as Peru State’s Athletes of the Month.
Tavarez Cabrera, a senior pitcher, earned his second Heart Pitcher of the Week recognition on April 2. That honor came after he had thrown seven shut-out innings in Peru State’s 5-0 win over Mount Mercy in very chilly temperatures. Tavarez Cabrera allowed just one hit and struck out 12 in that contest.
As of this release, Tavarez Cabrera is among the NAIA’s leaders as he is listed in three different individual rankings: second in opponent batting average (0.146), second in hits allowed per nine (4.41), and fifth in total hits allowed (33).
Athletic director Albury noted, “Taylor and Eddy both have had key roles in the success of their respective teams during the month of April.” Concluding, he added, “They are top choices for April’s Bobcat Athletes of the Month.”
