So, the announcement for the April Athletes of the Month for Peru State is on time!!
Bobcat athletic director Steve Schneider recently announced that Peru State golfer Jessica Weickert (Beatrice) and baseball player Alberto Rosario (Carolina, Puerto Rico) were selected as the April Athletes of the Month. They were picked based on their athletic efforts during the past month.
Both Weickert and Rosario earned Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) Player honors.
Weickert was name the Heart’s Women’s Golfer of the Week on April 16. She earned the honor after winning the Peru State Spring Invitational which was held at the Table Creek Golf Course in Nebraska City.
Out of 31 golfers, Weickert was the only golfer to shoot in the 70’s both days despite the blustery and cold conditions. She had rounds of 76 and 79 and won the tournament by a 12-stroke margin.
The golfer of the week honor was the fourth time she had earned the conference’s top weekly honor. Weickert earned the honor once as a sophomore, once as a junior, and now twice as a senior.
Schneider commented, “As Jessica and Alberto each were recognized by the conference, they were easy selections. Congratulations to both of them on their picks as April athletes of the month.”
