Peru State Salutes Its Hall of Fame Members – Bob Lade

(Peru, Neb.) – The late Robert "Bob" Lade is the 14th of 84 individuals and/or teams being recognized as part of the lead up to the 31st Peru State Hall of Fame Induction ceremony.
 
As Nebraska and Peru State are both celebrating their 150th birthdays, the College is also hosting special events throughout the year. The next big event on campus will be the Peru State Athletic Hall of Fame banquet which will take place on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 22 and 23.7729
 
As a lead up to the upcoming Hall of Fame event, the 84 individuals and/or teams will be recognized on a daily basis with one noted on each of the 84 days prior to the event.
 
Lade, who was a native of Tecumseh, was inducted for his prowess on the football field.
 
The inscription on Lade's plaque which is exhibited in the upper lobby of the Al Wheeler Activity Center reads as follows: "Big, fast and rugged, Robert "Bob" Lade was called an "iron man" during the famed "Al Wheeler Era", spear-heading the undefeated football teams of 1952 and '53. A two-way starting lineman, the 210 pounder was the first Nebraskan to earn first-team Little All-American honors, despite being declared legally blind. After a short stint with the Baltimore Colts in 1953, Lade left the NFL to coach and teach in Tarkio, Mo. One of Peru State's fiercest competitors, he passed away in 1973.   
 
In the 1954 annual, it was noted that Lade was a physical education major and was a member of the following on campus: P Club, Blue Devils, Industrial Arts Club, Lutheran Club, and Alpha Mu Omega.
 
From the Pro Football Archives website, it notes that Lade was a 21st round pick and 245th overall by the Colts.
 
Lade was inducted into the Peru State Hall of Fame on September 10, 1988, as a member of the fourth class.
