(Peru, Neb.) – After a field goal on their first possession gave Peru State the lead, it was all Grand View Vikings the rest of the way. The fifth-ranked Vikings scored 34 unanswered points on their way to their seventh win of the season against one loss.
Â
In the Heart of America Athletic Conference North Division, Grand View improved to 2-0. The Bobcats fell to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in the North.
Â
Game ActionÂ
Peru State took the opening kickoff with
Colton Audsley (Prescott Valley, Ariz.) giving the Bobcats decent field position after a 30-yard kickoff return to their 33-yard line. After a couple of short-distance plays,
Tyler Audsley (Prescott Valley, Ariz.) found
Jon Frink for an 18-yard pass play. Audsley then carried the ball for 25 yards to the Vikings' 15-yard line. After a personal foul on Grand View moved the ball to the 10-yard line, the Bobcats could only get to the two-yard line and were forced to try a field goal.
Greg Conry's
(Harlan, Iowa) 21-yard attempt was good and the 'Cats led 3-0 with 10:25 left in the first quarter.
Â
After that, Grand View took over and scored on their first possession of the game on a one-yard touchdown run. With the PAT, it was Vikings 7-3 at the 6:47 mark in the first.
Â
The teams played fairly even for nearly ten minutes before Grand View would get their next touchdown on a 20-yard pass play. After the kick, the Vikings led 14-3 with 3:57 left in the first half.
Â
Peru State could not move the ball on their next possession and after the punt; Grand View took over with 2:09 left in the half on the Bobcats' 48-yard line. After gaining a first down rushing and with little time left on the clock, the Vikings connected for a 36-yard touchdown pass as time expired. The kick was no good, but Grand View led 20-3 at halftime.
Â
Neither team would score in the third, but the Vikings started their next scoring drive with 15 seconds left in the third after a 40-yard punt return put them on Peru State's 17-yard line. It looked like the Bobcats would hold the Vikings to a field goal attempt, but a personal foul on the 'Cats would give Grand View another opportunity. Four plays later the Vikings scored and now led 27-3 with 14:10 left in the game.
Â
Grand View would add another touchdown on their next possession to make the final score 34-3 as neither team would score in the final seven minutes of the game.
