(Peru, Neb.)– Peru State College quarterback
CJ Dixon has been named the NAIA and Heart of America Offensive Player of the Week for September 22 following a record-setting performance that powered the Bobcats to a 64-43 road win over Central Methodist (Mo.).
The sophomore from Loganville, Ga., delivered one of the most impressive outings in program history, throwing for 536 yards and seven touchdowns on 30-of-54 passing. Dixon also added 101 rushing yards on 10 carries, showcasing his dual-threat ability and helping the Bobcats notch their third straight victory to move to 3-1 on the season.
Dixon's effort etched his name into the Peru State record books, breaking three single-game marks: most passing yards (536), most yards gained (536), and most touchdown passes (7).
The offensive explosion came in a game where the Bobcats needed every big play. He added another long connection, finding
Chaz Sturn for 41 yards and Bryan Thomas for 42 yards on back-to-back drives in the third quarter to regain momentum.
With the score tied 43-43 in the fourth quarter, Dixon found
Robert Armes from 18 yards out to put the Bobcats back in front. Minutes later, he iced the game with his seventh touchdown pass, a 10-yard strike to
Daylan Jones, stretching the lead to 64-43 and sealing the win.
The Bobcats will match up with #3 Benedictine on Saturday, September 26th at 1:00pm in Atchison, Kansas.
