(Peru, Neb.)- The Peru State Women's Bowling Team bowled at the Heart Conference Championships on Saturday and Sunday. The team entered the tournament as the #8 seed.
Makenzie Millard was named 2nd Team All-Conference after qualifying 6th for her RPI score.
The conference tournament is a Mega-Match, double elimination tournament. A Mega-Match consists of three separate events, inside one match on one pair of lanes. The first team to win 2-points wins the match and moves on. One Team game (5-players each bowling a traditional game), the highest total pins determined 1-point award. 4-Baker style games (players bowls in the same game, alternating frames), 2 games on each lane. High total pins determine 1-point awarded. If one team wins both of those games, they move on, while the other team drops to the consolation bracket, with still a chance to make their way back to the title match. If they split 1 and 1, then the match goes to a 3rd set.
The Bobcats were challenged with the nationally ranked #1 Mount Mercy Mustangs first round. They accepted the challenge and took both the Team Game and the 4-Baker game set for a 2-0 sweep of the Mustangs.
The Bobcats faced the 4th seed Culver-Stockton Wildcats in the second round. The team wasn't quite able to continue their stride from earlier and fell 0-2.
The team entered the 3rd round in the consolation bracket against the 6th seed, Columbia College. In the first set of the Mega Match, the Bobcats lost the total pin count by 3, scoring the point for Columbia, but then the ladies bounced back and took the 4-game total Baker match by less than 20 pins, evening the match record to 1-1. In the 3rd and final set, best 3 of 5 Baker games, Colombia won the first and second games by a total of 17 pins. Columbia sealed the deal in the third set and ultimately won the Match 2-1.
