Eighth-Ranked Grand View Scores 39 in a Row to Top Peru State

(Peru, Neb.) – The Peru State football team had a 14-6 lead near the end of the first quarter.  The visiting Grand View (Iowa) Vikings didn't let that phase them as they rattled off 39 straight points in route to a 45-28 win over the Bobcats in the Oak Bowl on Saturday.
 
The eighth-ranked Vikings have run off five straight wins after losing its season opener and are 5-1 on the season. This was the first of the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) games for both teams so Grand View is 1-0 in the North while the Bobcats are 0-1. The 'Cats fell to 2-5 on the season.
 
First Quarter Action
 
The teams traded a couple of possessions before Grand View started its second drive on the Bobcats' 27-yard line after a 37-yard punt return. It only took the Vikings one play to score, but their PAT failed. With 9:15 left in the first quarter, Grand View led 6-0.
 
Colton Audsley (Prescott Valley, Ariz.) took the kickoff out 19 yards and Peru State started its third possession on their 23-yard line. Two short quarterback keepers by Dan Boshart (Wood River) were followed by a personal foul on Grand View giving the 'Cats a first down. After a short carry by Tajh Eaddy (Spencerport, N.Y.) was followed by a nine-yard carry by Eaddy for the second first down of the drive taking the ball into Viking territory at the 44-yard line. On the next play, Boshart scrambled for 44 yards and scored. John Brady (Hickman) hit the PAT and Peru State led 7-6 with 7:32 left in the quarter.

Grand View would move the ball on their next possession to the Peru State 28-yard line where they faced a fourth and one. The Bobcat defense came up with a pass break-up by Jordan Willis (Denver) turned the ball over to the 'Cats.
 
Boshart carried the ball for 11 yards on the first play of the drive and then Eaddy gained another 13 yards moving the ball in to Grand View territory at the 48-yard line. Justin Pool (Circleville, Kan.) took the pitch and went down the sideline for 38 yards. Two short gains by Boshart were followed by another personal foul called on the Vikings giving Peru State a first and goal at the three-yard line. Eaddy carried for two yards and then Boshart went in with the quarterback sneak to score his second touchdown of the game. Brady's PAT was good and Peru State led 14-6 with 2:03 left in the first stanza.
 
Peru State's defense held Grand View on their next possession and took over on their 13-yard line. On the first play, the Bobcats fumbled and it was recovered by the Vikings for a score. Their PAT failed and the 'Cats still led 14-12.
 
Second Quarter Action
 
The Bobcats had an opportunity to move the ball down the field on their next possession, but an offensive pass interference was called on the completion. Eventually, the 'Cats were forced to punt and it was blocked and recovered for a touchdown by the Vikings. Grand View tried for two, but were not successful. However, they now led 18-14 with 13:47 left in the first half.
 
Grand View forced a three and out on Peru State on their next possession. They would then take the ball 91 yards in 11 plays to score. The PAT was good this time and the Vikings led 25-14 with 11:27 to go in the second quarter.
 
The Vikings would force another three and out and would take over on their seven-yard line for their next possession. Eighteen plays later Grand View would score again to go up 31-14 with 39 seconds left in the half.

Third Quarter Action
 
Grand View would take the opening possession of the second half and score in six plays going 73 yards. After the PAT, the Vikings led 38-14 with 12:21 remaining in the third quarter.
 
The teams would trade three different possessions before the Vikings forced a Bobcat punt from Peru State's 17-yard line. Grand View would block the punt and recover on the Bobcats' three-yard line. One play later as the clock ran out, the Vikings scored. With the PAT, Grand View led 45-14.
 
Fourth Quarter Action
 
Rio Oliver (Tampa, Fla.) returned the kickoff out to the Peru State 30 to start the Bobcats' first drive of the fourth quarter. Peru State would be switching quarterbacks on different plays in the drive. After a delay of game, Joey Dominguez (Van Ormy, Texas) connected with Jeremy Kaleikini (Brigham City, Utah) for 13 yards. After an incomplete pass, Dominguez carried for two yards and a first down. On second and ten, pass interference was called on Grand View giving the 'Cats a first down in Viking territory at their 45-yard line. Dominguez would connect with Oliver for a 44-yard pass which moved the ball to the one-yard line. Noah Kasbohm (Nebraska City) would carry the ball in to stop the Viking scoring run. Brady's PAT was good and the Bobcats now trailed 45-21 with 12:59 left in the game.
 
Two Viking possessions later, Stephen Bowers (La Vista) forced a fumble which was picked up and returned for a Bobcat score by Rodale Erwin-Hall (Omaha). Brady's PAT was good for what would be the final point of the contest.

Team Statistics
 
Grand View dominated the team statistics as they finished with 28 first downs – double what the Bobcats had. The Vikings also more than doubled up the 'Cats in terms of net rushing yards as they finished with 330 while Peru State had 155.
 
The Vikings added 144 yards through the air and finished with 474 yards of total offense. Peru State added 82 yards passing and finished with 237 total yards.
 
Both teams lost two fumbles, but there were no interceptions.
 
Each team had a lot of penalties as the Vikings were flagged 12 times for 165 yards with Peru State have 11 penalties for 112 yards.
 
Offensive Statistics
 
Boshart led Peru State with 62 yards rushing on 13 carries and scored two touchdowns. Pool added 56 yards on five carries while Eaddy gained 36 yards on eight carries. Kasbohm had the other Bobcat offensive touchdown.
 
Dominguez was two for two passing for 57 yards while Boshart was two for six for 25 yards.
 
Kaleikini had two receptions for 26 yards while Oliver grabbed one for 44 yards. Pool had one catch for 12 yards.
 
Special Team Statistics
 
Brady punted eight times averaging 34.6 yards per punt while having three land within the 20-yard line. He kicked off five times averaging 46.0 yards per kick. In addition, he did miss a 49-yard field goal try.
 
Anthony Luckett (Los Angeles) returned three kickoffs for 53 yards while Audsley had two for 40 yards. Madarius Adams (Lakeland, Fla.) one return for 25 yards and Oliver had the other for 18 yards.
 
Defensive Statistics
 
For the second week in a row Zach Taylor (Gillette, Wyo.) led the team defensively as he finished with 13 total tackles – seven of which were solo. Taylor also broke up one pass and blocked an extra point attempt. Travis Reed (Hickman) added 12 total tackles – six of which were solo.
 
Luis Constantino (Varzea Grande, Brazil) finished with eight tackles – three solo and recovered one fumble. Willis had seven total tackles – two solo and had 1.5 tackles for losses of five yards and broke up one pass.
 
Bowers, Langdon Douglas (Kansas City, Mo.), and Jalen Tate (Omaha) each finished with six total tackles. Bowers and Douglas each had three solo tackles while Tate finished with one solo. Bowers forced one fumble and had a tackle for a loss of three yards. Douglas had 1.5 tackles for losses of four yards and broke up two passes.
 
Mike Mitchell (Boys Town) finished with five tackles – two solo and had a tackle of a loss of two yards.
 
Upcoming Games
 
Peru State will head to Oskaloosa, Iowa, on Saturday, Oct. 20, to take on William Penn in a contest beginning at noon. The Statesmen are 3-4 on the year and 1-0 in the Heart North having topped Culver-Stockton (Mo.) 24-21 on Saturday.
 
The Bobcats will not be back at home until Nov. 3 when Culver-Stockton visits the Oak Bowl for a 1 p.m. game. It is Peru State's final home game of the season and it will be Senior Day.
