(Peru, Neb.) – As noted by their coach in the post-game radio show, the Bobcats may have been looking ahead, but they had enough to pull out a wild 47-42 win over Culver-Stockton (C-SC) in Canton, Mo., on Saturday.

The Wildcats had nothing to lose and gave Peru State everything they could handle in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) North Division contest. The Bobcats improved to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in the North while Culver-Stockton fell to 0-10 on the year and 0-4 in the Heart North.

The seven wins matches the same totals of the 2013 and 2015 seasons. Peru State will have an opportunity to get an eighth win next week when they host Benedictine (Kan.) in the Oak Bowl.

First Quarter Scoring

Peru State scored first when back-up quarterback Dan Boshart
(Wood River) found Jake Coughlin
(Omaha) for a 48-yard touchdown pass. John Brady's PAT was good and the Bobcats led 7-0. That was the only scoring in the first quarter which came with 5:12 remaining.

Second Quarter Scoring

Out of the 89 points scored in the game, 41 came in the wild second quarter.

Culver-Stockton scored first with 11:51 on the clock on a 42-yard touchdown pass. With the PAT, the game was tied at 7-7.

On Peru State's next possession, it only took the Bobcats four plays to go 47 yards with Sean Van Briesen
(Papillion) going in from one yard out. The PAT was blocked, but the Bobcats led 13-7 with 10:10 left in the first half.

The Wildcats would go 56 yards in seven plays and scored with a 21-yard touchdown pass. Their PAT was good and Culver-Stockton would take the lead at 14-13 with 7:16 remaining in the second quarter.

On the Bobcats' next possession, Peru State went 64 yards in seven plays with Boshart and Coughlin again hooking up – this time for a 34-yard touchdown pass. Brady's PAT was good and with 4:03 remaining, Peru State led 20-14.

C-SC would come right back and go 68 yards in six plays and scored with another touchdown pass, this one good for 14 yards. Their PAT was good and the Wildcats again led 21-20 with 2:23 left.

There was plenty of time on the clock for the Bobcats as they came back to take the lead going into halftime. Peru State went 67 yards in six plays with Van Briesen scoring from six yards out. Brady's kick was good and the Bobcats would lead 27-21 at the break.

Third Quarter Scoring

Both teams would score twice in the third period.

Culver-Stockton would score first as they went 75 yards in six plays with another touchdown pass. This time it was for nine yards. The PAT was good and the Wildcats regained the lead at 28-27.

On Peru State's next possession, the Bobcats went 64 yards in seven plays.
Justin Haystrand (New Port Richey, Fla.) carried it into the end zone from five yards out. Brady's point after was good and they regained the lead at 34-28 with 8:53 left in the quarter.

The Wildcats would not give up and went 76 yards in seven plays and yes, it was another touchdown pass. C-SC scored from 27 yards out and with the PAT, the Wildcats regained the lead 35-34 with 5:29 left in the stanza.

The teams traded a couple of possessions, but the Bobcats would add a score before the quarter ended. With 50 seconds left on the clock in the period, Boshart found David Bond
(New Port Richey, Fla.) for a 32-yard touchdown pass. Brady's kick was good and the Bobcats led 41-35.

Fourth Quarter Scoring

The longest stretch of not scoring came after the Bobcats' last score as the teams went over nine minutes without scoring.

Peru State would put together a drive that did go 80 yards in seven plays with Boshart scoring from 61 yards out. The PAT was blocked, but the Bobcats led 47-35 at that point.

On their next possession, the Wildcats would go 65 yards in six plays resulting in a 16-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was good and the score with 5:24 left was 47-42.

The last five minutes was a nail-biter for the Bobcats as they could not move the ball and had to give the football back to Culver-Stockton twice. Both times the Wildcat drive was stalled with an interception by Justin Barnes

If you are a football fan who likes offense, then you liked the game. There was nearly 1,100 yards as the teams combined for 1,093 total yards.

Culver-Stockton actually had better stats than the Bobcats as they finished with 31 first downs compared to 22 for Peru State. The Wildcats finished with 594 total yards with all but 49 yards of this coming through the air as Culver-Stockton had 545 passing yards. Peru State was balanced in their efforts with 260 yards on the ground and 239 yards in the air for 499 total yards.

There were not very many penalties as the Wildcats had five for 40 yards and Peru State had six for 58.

A difference in the game was the turnover margin as the Bobcats picked off five Wildcat passes while losing two fumbles.

David Bond
Boshart led Peru State with 154 yards rushing on 21 attempts and one touchdown. Van Briesen gained 89 yards on 25 carries and score twice. Haystrand had just 16 yards, but had one score.

In just his first start of the season, Boshart went 10 of 17 passing for 239 yards and three touchdown passes.

Coughlin had his best day receiving as he had six catches for 155 yards and two touchdowns. Bond caught two passes for 45 yards and one touchdown. Ki'Jana Owens

(Pampa, Texas) punted five times for 158 yards averaging 31.6 per attempt. He had one punt which landed within the 20-yard line.

(Lakeland, Fla.) was back returning kicks due to some Bobcat injuries. Adams returned four kick-offs for a total of 130 yards and set-up several Peru State scores. Ernest Washington

Upcoming Game

Peru State will play its final regular-season game next Saturday in the Oak Bowl. The Bobcats will host Benedictine (Kan.) at 1 p.m. on Senior Day.

th-ranked Ravens lost a close one to the sixth-ranked Grand View (Iowa) Vikings on Benedictine's home field Saturday 30-27. Benedictine is now 8-2 overall and 3-1 in the Heart North.

Twenty Bobcat seniors will be recognized before the game at approximately 12:35 p.m. There will be a special Veteran's Day program hosted by Peru State at halftime of the contest.
