(Peru, Neb.) – A three-hour-plus rain delay didn't dampen Grand View on Saturday as they came back out and scored 27 more points in the first half on their way to a 47-7 win over Peru State in Des Moines.

The Vikings led 13-0 with a little over two minutes left in the first quarter before the Heart of America Athletic Conference North Division match-up faced the rain and lightning delay.

With the win, the Vikings are now 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the Heart North. Peru State fell to 4-3 and 0-1 in division play.

This was the second week in a row that Peru State faced a ranked NAIA opponent as they fell to the second-ranked Baker Wildcats two weeks ago.

First Quarter Action

Grand View took the opening kickoff and went nine plays and 75 yards for their first score. The PAT was not good and the Vikings led 6-0 with 11:32 left in the stanza.

After forcing the Bobcats to punt on their first possession, the Vikings then went 14 plays and 73 yards while chewing 6:01 off the clock for a one-yard touchdown. The kick was good and with 4:08 left in the first quarter, Grand View led 13-0.

Peru State had the next possession and did get a first down and later in the drive is when the delay started. When play resumed, the Vikings forced the 'Cats to punt and ball slipped out of the punter's hands. Grand View recovered on Peru State's 13 yard-line and three plays later scored. With the PAT, the Vikings led 20-0.

After Peru State was forced to another three and out, the Vikings started the second quarter with a six-play, 46-yard drive for a score to make it 23-0.

The Bobcats did get a first down on their first possession of the second quarter on a nine-yard carry by
Justin Haystrand (Port Richey, Fla.), but later was forced again to punt the ball away.

Grand View did march the ball down the field, but the Bobcat defense did hold the Vikings to a 42-yard field goal. With 6:33 left in the half, Grand View led 26-0.

After another three and out for the 'Cats, it took Grand View just four plays to go 68 yards to score. With the PAT, the Vikings led 33-0 with 2:39 left in the second quarter.

The Viking defense forced another three and out for Peru State and it took just one play this time for Grand View to score on a 47-yard touchdown pass.

At halftime, Grand View led 40-0.

A.J. Flodman
(Hickman) took the kickoff back 16 yards for Peru State to start the second half and the 'Cats started on their 21-yard line. After no gain on the first play,
Travis Carnahan (Wahoo) connected with Flodman for four yards. On third and six from their 25-yard line, Carnahan hit
David Bond (Port Richey, Fla.) for a 75-yard touchdown pass.

(Hickman) kick was good. With 13:40 left in the third quarter, it was now Grand View 40-7.

The final scoring of the game came on Grand View's next possession of the ball as they went nine plays and 68 yards with a three-yard run. With 11:42 left in the quarter, Grand View led 47-7.

Peru State did move the ball on their next possession and was in the Viking red zone at the ten-yard line, but could not convert on a fourth and one.

The teams basically traded possessions the rest of the way with Peru State making the deepest penetration on their last drive as they made it to Grand View's 29-yard line before the drive stalled.

Grand View dominated the statistics as they finished with 22 first downs that came from 128 yards rushing and 336 passing for 464 total yards. Peru State finished with eight first downs with just 94 yards on the ground and 116 through the air for 210 yards.

Peru State will host its ESPN3 game of the week this coming Saturday when William Penn (Iowa) comes to the Oak Bowl for the 11 a.m. contest. The Statesmen are presently 5-2 and are on a four-game winning streak. William Penn topped Culver-Stockton yesterday 32-10 in the first Heart North division contest.
