Peru State College Athletics

(Peru, Neb.) – The July Peru State athletes of the month are Deonte McReynolds (Chicago) and Noah Kasbohm (Nebraska City).

Athletic Director Wayne Albury announced his decision recently and it was due to the fact that the two student-athletes were recently named as two of the five winners of Heart of America Athletic Conference awards.

McReynolds was named with the winner of the Heart’s Emil S. Liston Award while Kasbohm won the A.O. Duer Award.

McReynolds was the first-ever Liston winner for Peru State which is given to junior men’s basketball players. The NAIA Emil S. Liston Award is named in honor of the NAIA’s first executive secretary and the prime mover behind the men’s basketball tournament. There is a scholarship which has been presented annually since 1950 to one junior men’s and one junior women’s basketball student-athletes who have shown athletic and scholastic achievement.

The NAIA will announce the national winners in September.

Athletic director Albury noted, “Any time an institution has student-athletes as winners at the conference levels, then obviously they are deserving of earning our monthly recognition.”
