Bobcat volleyball players Nadja Janjevic (Podgorica, Montenegro) and Yorgelys Jaspe (San Carlos, Venezuela) were named recently by Peru State athletic director Wayne Albury as the October Bobcat Athletes of the Month. Janjevic and Jaspe were selected by the athletic director as they both earned Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) honors for their efforts in the month of October.
The two seniors had key roles in helping their team to secure the third seed in the North Division of the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) Postseason Championships. In particular, their efforts during the last week of the regular season netted the pair Heart honors.
Janjevic was named as the Heart Defender of the Week as she had 17 total blocks in the wins over Culver-Stockton and William Penn. Against the Wildcats, Janjevic had seven solo blocks, four block assists, and one dig. In the big win over William Penn, Janjevic added four more solo blocks and two block assists while adding six digs. In addition, in the two matches offensively, Janjevic averaged two kills per set while have a good hitting percentage.
Presently, Janjevic is tenth in the NAIA in total blocks with 132 and 36th in blocks per game at 1.070.
Albury stated, “Nadja’s and Yorgelys’s efforts were key to helping improve their volleyball team’s conference mark which allowed the Bobcats to gain the third seed in their division. They have been two of the more consistent performers for the team in October and are deserving of the Athlete of the Month recognition.”
