Peru State athletic director Wayne Albury announced that Carlos Thomas (Gulfport, Miss.) and Travis Reed (Hickman) were selected as the Bobcat student-athletes of the month for October.
Thomas and Reed were identified as the athletes of the month as both of them earned Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) Defensive Players of the Week for football in early October.
A junior, Thomas led the Bobcat defense in Peru State’s homecoming win over Central Methodist 30-17. Thomas, 5-10, 180 pounds, had a monster game as he finished the game with eight total tackles – six of which were solo. He added three tackles for losses of 14 yards and had one sack. Also, Thomas had two interceptions which he returned for 28 yards. In addition, he forced one fumble which the ‘Cats recovered.
The following week, Reed, a senior earned the weekly recognition after the Bobcats fell in a tough contest to Benedictine 31-27 in Atchison, Kan. A 6-2, 205 pound linebacker finished the game with total 15 total tackles – eight of which were solo. In addition, he had 2.5 tackles for losses of three yards.
Albury stated, “Carlos and Travis led the Bobcats defensively with outstanding individual performances on the football field. Therefore, they were our selections for the October Bobcat student-athletes of the month.”
