Peru State athletic director Wayne Albury recently announced that Maddy Duncan (Sidney, Iowa) and Henry Tanksley (Lincoln) was named as the Bobcat Student-Athletes of the Month for February.
Both basketball players earned Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) all-conference recognition. Duncan earned honorable mention status while Tanksley was named the men’s second team for the second year in a row.
A 5-6 freshman guard, Duncan led Peru State in scoring as she averaged 11.64 points per game. In addition, she was the team’s leader in assists as she dished out 39 assists averaging 1.77 per contest. Also, Duncan grabbed 89 rebounds (4.0 boards per contest) and finished the season with 18 steals.
A 6-4 senior guard, Tanksley averaged 17.45 points per game while scoring 384 points in the shortened season. He made 143 of 310 field goal attempts for 46.1% which included hitting 29 of 96 from long range. Tanksley also grabbed 5.05 rebounds per game, dished out 2.64 assists, and grabbed slightly over one steal per contest. Tanksley finished as the fifth leading scorer overall in the conference and was sixth in average scoring.
Albury noted, “Maddy and Henry were the leaders on their respective basketball teams and the coaches in the conference recognized such. It will be good to have both of them back next season to help lead their teams to improved seasons.”
