Bobcat cross country runner Julia Zurek (Louisville) and football player Stephen Bowers (La Vista) were recently named by Peru State athletic director Wayne Albury as the August Bobcat Athletes of the Month. They were selected by Albury for the honor based on their recent starts to their respective sport seasons.

Bowers was the Bobcat defensive leader for the football team in its season-opening loss at Hastings on August 25. He finished with eight tackles – seven of which were solo and was double-teamed a good portion of the game. In addition, Bowers recorded one sack for a loss of three yards and had the game’s lone interception while returning it 21 yards.
 
A psychology major, Bowers is a senior and is one of the captains on the football team.
 
In announcing his August selections, Albury noted “Julia and Stephen both had good efforts in their respective opening events and I look forward to them doing similar things throughout the fall.”
