Bobcat athletic director Steve Schneider recently announced that Peru State softball player Rachel Carlos (Kaneohe, Hawaii) and baseball player Alberto Rosario (Carolina, Puerto Rico) were selected as the May Athletes of the Month. They were picked based on their athletic efforts during the past month.
Both Carlos and Rosario earned Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) First Team recognition.
In addition, Carlos was recently named to the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association (NFCA) Central Region First Team.
At the end of the regular season, Carlos finished with a .459 batting average, a .910 slugging percentage, and had nine doubles, one triple, and 13 home runs while driving in 15 RBI. She would have led the Heart in batting average, but was one or two games shy of meeting the required number of games (75% of games played) to be listed due to an injury.
On June 5, the NFCA will announce their NAIA All-America teams via NFCA.org.
Schneider commented, “Rachel and Alberto are good choices for the May Peru State Athletes of the Month – especially because of their recognition of making all-conference first team. And hats off to Rachel for earning all-region first team honors as well.”
