Peru State College Athletics

Shelbie Hess (Phoenix) and Sean McGary (Omaha) are the Peru State Bobcat Athletes of the Month for February as announced recently by athletic director Steve Schneider.

Hess, a 5-9 senior guard, was recently named to the Heart’s all-conference honorable mention. She finished the season second in scoring for the Peru State women with 13.3 points per game and was third in rebounding averaging 5.3 rebounds per game. Hess led the team with 45 made three-point field goals.
 
Against Baker University, Hess had her season-high of 27 points.  Hess grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds against Grace University. In the second game against Dordt College, Hess dished out five assists. Hess had a season-high four steals against Grand View University.
 
Hess is currently ranked 38^th among NAIA Division I players in free throw shooting as she made 78% of her free throw attempts. As the women’s basketball season has ended, Hess joined the Bobcat softball team and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Schneider noted that Hess and McGary were good choices as they helped their respective teams down the stretch in their regular-season games as both teams qualified for post-season play.
