Volleyball drops exhibition match to Lopers

(Kearney, Neb.)- The Peru State College volleyball team went on the road to take on NCAA Division II member Nebraska-Kearney in an exhibition match on Tuesday night. The Bobcats fell in straight sets with a score line of 25-11, 25-11 and 25-22.
 
Peru State battled to open the set after two kills and a service ace took a one-point lead (3-2), but a 10-1 stretch by Nebraska-Kearney took the lead and they never looked back to take the first set 25-11.
 
The Bobcats opened the second set with a one-point advantage (2-1) until the Lopers went on an 8-1 run to take a 9-3 lead, three straight points for Peru State brought the set score within three, but Nebraska-Kearney used runs of 6-2 and 10-3 to close the set 25-11.
 
Neither team could pull away to open the third set as the score was tied 7-7 after five ties, the Lopers found a 5-1 push to take a four-point lead, but the Bobcats clawed back with runs of 4-2 and 3-1 to knot the set at 15. After swapping points and a Loper kill, Peru State used a 5-1 run to take a three-point lead late in the third set (21-18), but Nebraska-Kearney answered with a 7-1 run to capture the set and the win 25-22.
 
Offensively Eden Moore (Eagle, Neb. / Waverly) led the Bobcats with six kills while Addison Schneider (Humphrey, Neb. / Humphrey) had five, Samantha Chesley (Lincoln, Neb. / Pius X) led the team with 11 assists while Braelyn Braithwaite (Elkhorn, Neb. / Elkhorn South) marked a game-high three service aces.
 
Defensively Braithwaite notched 13 digs while Brinley Falkinburg (Lincoln, Neb. / Lincoln East) put up eight, Chancie Deaton (Payson, Ariz. / Payson) and Alexus Ford (Alma, Kan. / Wabaunsee) both notched two block assists.
 
Peru State returns to play on Friday when they travel to participate in the 2026 Labor Day Classic held by The College of Saint Mary in Omaha, Nebraska. The Bobcats kick off the tournament at 10:00 A.M. facing Morningside.
