Volleyball wraps up at Friends Invitational

(Wichita, Kansas.)- The Peru State College volleyball team wrapped up the Friends Invitational with a victory against the host team Friends. The Bobcats won in straight sets with a line of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-18.
 
Peru State climbs to 4-1 on the season and went a perfect 3-0 during the Friends Invitational while the Falcons fall to 2-1 overall.
 
The Bobcats took an early 5-1 lead in the first set, but Friends battled back to knot up the score at 10, neither team could pull ahead until Peru State found a 6-1 surge that featured two service aces from Eden Moore (Eagle, Neb. / Waverly) to hold a 21-16 advantage. The Falcons found a 3-1 run to bring the set within three but the Bobcats used a 3-0 push capped off with a kill from Shealie Wiebers (Papillion, Neb. / Papillion-La Vista) to take the first set 25-19.
 
The second set started off with Friends being able to grab a 10-8 advantage until Peru State exploded with an 8-1 stretch to capture the lead 16-11, the Falcons answered with three straight points and the Bobcats responded with a 7-1 run which forced a Friends timeout. Friends scored the first point back on the court, but Peru State used a Falcons error and a Moore service ace to win the second set 25-16.
 
Peru State launched open the third set with a 10-2 run to force a Friends timeout, the Falcons narrowed the margin to four (11-7) but couldn't close the gap as the Bobcats led 21-17. Peru State would find a 4-1 push to claim the third set 25-18.
 
The offense was led by Weibers who notched nine kills on the day while Brinley Falkinburg (Lincoln, Neb. / Lincoln East) found eight and Addison Schneider (Humphrey, Neb. / Humphrey) marked seven, Teodora Bulatovic (Tivat, Montenegro / SMŠ "Mladost" Tivat) led the team with 18 assists and four service aces while Samantha Chesley (Lincoln, Neb. / Pius X) marked 12 assists.
 
Weibers led the team with 13 digs while Braelyn Braithwaite (Elkhorn, Neb. / Elkhorn South) put up 12 digs and Falkinburg found 11.
 
The Bobcats return back to action on Friday for the first home game of the season at the Al Wheeler Activity Center.
