Peru State Volleyball Falls to Waldorf in Five Set Thriller

(Peru, Neb.)---The Peru State volleyball team fell to the Waldorf Warriors on Saturday, August 26, in five sets. The Warriors improve their record to 4-0, while the Bobcats fall to 2-2 on the year.
 
Below is a breakdown of how the five-set match went…
 
It was a back-and-forth affair in the beginning of the first set, the Bobcats then started to pull away up 16-13 after a kill by Elli Williams (Olathe, Kan.). Peru State kept its three-point advantage for the middle of the first set.
 
The Warriors would get within three trailing 19-16 after an error. Peru State then finished the set strong on a 6-2 run with kills from Allie Schneider (Humphrey) and Erison Vonderschmidt (Falls City). The Bobcats would win the first set 25-18.
 
The Warriors came out strong in the second set as they were up 10-5. Peru State closed the gap trailing 11-8 after an error from the Warriors. Peru State in the middle of the second set would get the Warriors lead shrunk to one after a kill and ace from Keiley Hein (Omaha) trailing 15-14.
 
Waldorf and Peru State traded points back-and-forth until the Bobcats took a 19-18 lead with a kill from Addison Schneider. Peru State would hold a lead only once more in the second set as an ace from Olivia Gordon (Oskaloosa, Iowa) put Peru State up 22-21. Waldorf scored the final four points of set two winning 25-22.
 
Peru State came back with a vengeance in the third set as they held the Warriors in single digits for the first half of the set up 15-9 after a service ace from Allie Schneider. Peru State kept its foot on the gas as they lea 20-12 with kills from Hein, Kalyssa Fox (Casa Grande, Ariz.) and Addison Schneider (Humphrey).
 
The Bobcats took care of the Warriors in the third set with a 25-17 set victory after a kill from Williams.
 
Waldorf gave Peru State some of its own medicine in the fourth set as it was the Warriors turn to flex their muscle. Waldorf was up 18-11 in the fourth set. The Bobcats were able to trim the lead slightly trailing 20-14 after back-to-back kills from Vonderschmidt.
 
Waldorf seemed as if they had the fourth set wrapped up 24-16. Two kills from Hein and an ace from Chantal Paniagua (Santo Domingo, D.R.) had the Bobcats  trailing 24-19. The Warriors were able to take the fourth set 25-19.
 
In the fifth set, the Warriors kept their momentum going as they were up 6-3, but the Bobcats were able to find their groove to get the score within a point trailing 9-8 after an ace from Olivia Gordon (Oskaloosa, Iowa).
 
Peru State had the game tied at ten after a kill from Vonderschmidt and an error by the Warriors. Waldorf went on a 5-2 run to slam the door shut on Peru State as the Warriors won the game 3-2.
 
Vonderschmidt led the team in kills with 18, Hein finished with 11, and Addison Schneider had nine. Gordon and Vonderschmidt each had three aces. Williams led the way in blocks with three, Fox had two and Addison Schneider finished with one.
 
Allie Schneider had a team-high 47 assists. Paniagua led the team in digs with 20.
 
Peru State returns to its home court this Tuesday, August 26, against the York Panthers at 7:00 p.m.
