(Peru, Neb.)—Peru State fell to the Bethany Swedes in five sets 3-2, on Tuesday night. The Bobcats fall to 1-1 on the year, while the Swedes improve to 1-2 on the year.

Below is a breakdown of how the five-set thriller went…

In the first set Bethany would get out to an 8-4 lead before, the Bobcats would get the score within one with kills from Erison Vonderschmidt (Falls City) and Allie Schneider (Humphrey) to make the score 8-7, Swedes.

Later in the set the Bobcats would take their first lead of the game with a kill by Vonderschmidt as Peru State led 14-13. Kills by Schneider and Elli Williams (Olathe, Kan.) would extend the Bobcats lead out to 17-14.

Bethany would come back to tie the set at 20-all, the Bobcats would hold one more lead at 21-20 after a kill from Addison Schneider (Humphrey) but Bethany would end up taking the first set 25-22.

In the second set, the Swedes and Bobcats would go back-and-forth for the first ten points before a host of errors from Bethany let Peru State get up 14-9. Bethany would close the gap to four points a few times throughout the second set but Peru State held its lead throughout the set.

Kills by Vonderschmidt and Shealie Wiebers (Papillion) helped close out the second set for the Bobcats as they would take it 25-19.

The third set was a barn burner that unfortunately turned in favor for the Swedes. The set was close throughout as each team was trading points back-and-forth as it was 14-all. The Bobcats then went on a 5-0 run to go up 19-14 with a couple of kills and a block from the Schneider sisters.

The Swedes would get the score within three trailing 21-18, but then the Bobcats had what looked like the third set wrapped up 24-19, but Bethany would not go away which was the theme all night as they took a 25-24 lead.

The Swedes ultimately came back and won the set 28-26.

Peru State came back with a vengeance in the fourth set after it was again tight early. Peru State started to pull away in the middle of the set up 14-10 after a kill from Wiebers and a few errors from Bethany.

The Swedes would get it to within four points late trailing 19-15, in the set but then the Bobcats turned it on as they would only allow one more point in the set winning 25-16 with kills by Vonderschmidt, and aces from Vonderschmidt and Allie Schneider.

Peru State looked to be in control a couple of times throughout the fifth set. First up 6-2 with kills by Vonderschmidt and Wiebers.
