(Peru, Neb.)—The Peru State men's basketball team defeated York Tuesday night with an 87-79 victory over the Panthers. The Bobcats improve to 1-1 overall on the season.

The game was tied 8-8 early after Jibril Harris
(Chicago) knocked down a shot from beyond the arc. York would go own an 8-2 run of its own to take a 16-10 lead with 14:54 left in the first half.
Later in the first half the Bobcats would claw their way back to tie the game at 21, with buckets from Lorenzo Anderson
(Lithonia, Ga.) as he would put in seven points during the Bobcat run. Man Man Baker
(Aurora, Colo.) and Troy Houghton
(Omaha) put in a couple of baskets to help tie the game.
The Bobcats ended up go on a 12-0 run to take a 29-21 lead with a little over seven minutes remaining in the half after Harris made a field goal.
The Panthers did not back down in the first half as they fought their way back with a 9-3 run of their own as they cut the lead down to three 33-30. Peru State then would extend its lead out to 41-33 at the tail end of the first after a made field goal by Baker.
York would cut the first half lead to six one more time before Peru State took a ten-point lead into the half 45-35.
The Bobcats started out the second half with a bang as Donzell Johnson
(Bloomington, Ill.) drilled a three to go up by 13. Peru State went on a massive 17-6 run to start the second half as they were leading York 62-41.
York would cut the lead to 13 after a 10-2 run as they trailed 64-51. Savvon Traylor
(Atlanta, Ga.) would produce a big basket to stop the run. York would then cut the lead to ten as they trailed 66-56 with a little over eight minutes to play.
The Bobcats were able to stretch their lead out to 73-59 after a field goal by Traylor. The Panthers would not go away as they trimmed the lead to single digits down nine with just over four minutes to play.
Harris would hit a big three-point jump shot with around two minutes left to have Peru State go up 13 points. The Panthers cut the lead to single digits one last time with under a minute to play 78-70. Peru State would make enough free throws down the stretch to hang on for the 87-79 victory.
Peru State was 33-of-61 from the field shooting 54.1%. They were 8-of-22 from beyond the arc shooting 36.4%. The Bobcats hit 13-of-19 from the charity stripe good for 68.4%.
York was 29-of-61 from the field shooting 47.5%. The Panthers were 6-of-20 from three-point line good for 30% and they shot 15-of-22 from the charity stripe 68.2%.
The Bobcats had six players in double figures.
Baker and Anderson led the way in points as each of them had 17, Harris trailed behind them with 13, Johnson and Traylor each put in 12 while Houghton finished with 10. Baker was one rebound short of a double-double with nine while Harris finished with eight boards.
Baker led the way in assists with three and Anderson led the way in steals with four.
Peru State is at home this Saturday, November 5, to take on Avila University. Tip-Off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
