PSC Volleyball Drops Match to Culver-Stockton

(Peru, Neb.)—The Peru State volleyball team fell to Culver-Stockton on Tuesday night in three sets. The Bobcats are now 6-16 overall and 3-9 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play, while the Wildcats are 13-5 overall and 8-4 in conference play.
 
Below is a breakdown of how each set in the match went…
 
The Bobcats took an early 7-6 lead in the first set after taking advantage of an attack error by the Wildcats. Later in the first set a kill by Kennedy Miller (Plattsmouth) tied the game at 13 all after Culver-Stockton went on a mini 3-0 run.
 
The Wildcats stretched out their lead to four leading 18-14, then kills by Miller, Kylee Fischer (Bellevue) and a block assist by Michelle Beer (Salem) and Lauren Moubray (Mission, Texas) brought the Bobcats within two trailing 19-17.
 
A kill by Kim Krise (Briggsdale, Colo.) would get the Bobcats within two 23-21 once more in the set but the Wildcats took set one 25-21.
 
The Wildcats would keep their distance for much of the second set as they led by five early, but then an ace by Chantal Paniagua (Santo Domingo, D.R.) would have Peru State within four down 12-8.
 
The Wildcats would then go on an 8-4 run, then Krise stopped the run with a kill of her own as the Bobcats trailed by eight 20-12. The Wildcats had the Bobcats on the ropes leading 24-12, but then a few errors and two aces by Paniagua had the Bobcats within eight down 24-16.
 
Culver-Stockton would close out set two winning 25-16.
 
Peru State led early in the third set 7-4, after a kill by Katie Mendick (Bellevue). The Bobcats and the Wildcats would then be in a back-and-forth affair until the set was tied at 12.
 
The Wildcats then tried to extend their lead by a kill by Krise had the Bobcats within one down 15-14. An 8-1 run had Culver-Stockton within two points of victory leading 23-15.
 
Then a 3-0 run from the Bobcats had them within five down 23-18 from kills by Keiley Hein (Omaha) Krise and an error from the Wildcats. Culver-Stockton won the third set 25-19 as they defeated Peru State as each team has now defeated each other on their homecourt.
 
Krise led the way in kills with 12, Beer finished with six and Fischer had three. Paniagua had two aces Mattie Nichols (Auburn) and Alyssa Bock (Plattsmouth) finished with one.
 
Beer had three blocks while Fischer had two and Miller had one. Olivia Gordon (Oskaloosa, Iowa) finished with 13 assists, while Rylee Hellbusch (Plattsmouth) had eight and Nichols had one. Nichols led the way in digs with 17, Paniagua finished with ten and Hellbusch had seven.
 
Peru State is on the road Friday, October 14, against Mount Mercy in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Bobcats lost the first match 3-1 back on Saturday, September 17. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
