Grand View Football Defeats Peru State 60-0

(Peru, Neb.) – It was all Viking football Saturday in Des Moines as the fourth-ranked Grand View team took it to Peru State 60-0.
 
With the win, Grand View improves to 10-0 overall and 4-0 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) North Division. Peru State falls to 1-9 on the season and 1-3 in the North.
 
First Quarter Action
 
Grand View took the opening kickoff and scored after four plays on a four-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was good and the Vikings led 7-0 at the 12:57 mark in the first quarter.

On Peru State's first possession, the Bobcats were forced to punt and ball went over the punter's head. The Vikings recovered on the Bobcats' 23-yard line. Two plays later, Grand View scored on a 16-yard run. The PAT was good and the Vikings led 14-0 with less than four minutes off the clock.
 
The Bobcats were forced to punt on their next possession and Grand View took over on their 16-yard line. This time the Vikings went 84 yards in 17 plays and scored on a five-yard rushing touchdown. With the extra point, Grand View led 21-0 with 33 seconds left in the first quarter.
 
Second Quarter Action
 
Peru State would run one play to end the first quarter and then had three plays in the second before punting.
 
Grand View took over on their 27-yard line. On this possession the Vikings would go 14 plays and score on an 18-yard pass play. The PAT was good and Grand View now led 28-0 with 8:54 left in the first half.
 
On the Bobcats' first play after the kickoff, Grand View intercepted a pass and took it to Peru State's six-yard line. Two plays later, the Vikings scored. The PAT was good and it was now 35-0 with 6:07 on the clock.
 
The Bobcats would move the ball on their next possession, but when they had to punt, it was blocked. Grand View would get the ball on the Bobcats' 41-yard line. It would take the Vikings three plays to find the end zone. It looked like the PAT would be no good, but the holder took the errant snap and went in for two points to make it 43-0.
 
That would be the score at halftime.

The Bobcats had the opening possession and were forced to punt deep in their territory. Grand View took over on Peru State's 30-yard line. The 'Cats did force Grand View to kick a field goal which was good from 39-yards. With 10:38 on the clock, the Vikings now led 46-0.
 
Grand View would force Peru State to punt again on their next possession and would take over on their 47-yard line. Eight plays later, the Vikings would score a seven-yard run. The PAT was good and it was now 53-0 with 5:28 left in the period.
 
Peru State would throw an interception on their next possession which the Vikings took in for a pick six. With the PAT, it was now 60-0.
 
That would actually be the final score of the game as Peru State was not able to effectively move the ball and Grand View basically would run out the clock by running the ball.

As expected by the score, Grand View did dominate the statistics. However, they may not be as big as one would expect as the Vikings did get short field position to begin many of their possessions.
 
The Vikings finished with 22 first downs compared to five for Peru State. Grand View had 400 yards of total offense while holding the Bobcats to just 55 yards – nine of which was rushing.
 
Grand View grabbed two interceptions and two fumbles while the 'Cats recovered on Viking fumble.
 
Peru State was flagged only four times for 34 yards while Grand View had nine penalties of 106 yards.

J'Lon Horton (Valrico, Fla.) picked up 31 of the team's yards on the ground on 13 carries.
 
Harry Kanu (Brandon, Fla.) completed two of 12 passes for 46 yards.
 
Mitchell Orr (Smithville, Mo.) caught one pass for 42 yards while Jeremy Kaleikini (Brigham City, Utah) had one reception for four yards.
 
Peru Special Team Statistics
 
Dylan Allen (Grand Island) punted six times averaging 28 yards while John Brady (Hickman) punted one for 54 yards.
 
Orr had four kickoff returns for 60 yards while Michael Bullard (Nassau, Bahamas) returned two kicks for 26 yards. Luis Constantino (Varzea Grande, Brazil) had one return of 14 yards.
 
Brady had one kickoff for 57 yards.
 
Peru Defensive Statistics
 
Jordan Willis (Denver) led the Bobcats with ten tackles – six of which were solo. Willis added 2.5 tackles for losses of 6.5 yards and had one pass break-up.
 
Rodney Roseboro (Tampa, Fla.) and Deiontay Dozier (Mesa, Ariz.) each had eight tackles. Roseboro had six solo while Dozier had three solo.

Mardarius Adams (Lakeland, Fla.) and Cameron Schlender (Kearney) each finished with seven total tackles. Adams had five solo while Schlender had two solo. Schlender had one tackle of a loss of 11 yards.
 
Ben Sode (Clermont, Fla.), Constantino, Robbie Sturdivant (North Platte), and Bradley Rose (Falls City) all finished with six total tackles. Sode had three solo while Constantino had two. Sturdivant finished with one solo tackle. Sode and Constantino each had one tackle for a loss of one yard while Sturdivant and Rose each were credited with 0.5 tackles for a loss of three yards.
 
Brady Stephens (Council Bluffs, Iowa) had five total tackles – one solo – and forced a fumble which he recovered.
 
Final Game for 2019
 
Peru State will host Graceland (Iowa) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16. It will be Senior Day for 16 Bobcats. They, along with their parents, will be recognized prior to the game at approximately 12:40 p.m.
