Peru State Salutes Its Hall of Fame Members – Jill Parker Scanlon

(Peru, Neb.) – Jill Parker Scanlon is the 81st of 84 individuals and/or teams being recognized while leading up to the 26th Peru State Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. The Hall of Fame began in April of 1986.

As Nebraska and Peru State are both celebrating their 150th birthdays, the College is also hosting special events throughout the year. The next big event on campus will be the Peru State Athletic Hall of Fame banquet which will take place on Friday, Sept. 22, with a presentation at halftime on Saturday, Sept. 23.

As a lead up to the upcoming Hall of Fame event, the 84 individuals and/or teams will be recognized on a daily basis with one noted on each of the 84 days prior to the event.

Parker Scanlon, an Auburn native, was inducted into the Hall of Fame for her abilities as a volleyball and basketball player while at Peru State.8179

The inscription on Parker Scanlon's plaque which is exhibited in the upper lobby of the Al Wheeler Activity Center reads as follows: "After 21 years, Jill Parker Scanlon is still on top of two of the all-time career hitting categories for Bobcat volleyball.

Parker is first all-time in career kills with 1,755 and career attack attempts with 4,828. In addition, she is still third all-time in career blocks with 622 and also holds the third-best single-season kills mark at 571.

After finishing her storied career in 1995, Parker was named a Second Team All-American. She was a member of the 1993 and 1995 Bobcat teams who played in the NAIA National Tournament. In 1993, Parker was named to the NAIA National Tournament All-Tournament Second Team. In addition, Parker was named as the 1994 Co-MVP in the NAIA All-Midwest South Independent Region.

Also, Parker was a member of successful Bobcat women's basketball teams for two years."

A review of the current volleyball record book notes Parker Scanlon still possesses the same marks as noted on her plaque. It should be noted that Parker was an all-around player, not just a front row player as many specialized players are today. In career categories, she is still tenth in serve receive attempts with 1,694 and 14th in digs with 1,152.

In addition to being third in single season kills, Parker Scanlon is ninth and tenth in single-season blocks with 165 in 1992 and 162 in 1993.

The years Parker Scanlon played volleyball, the Bobcats went 33-20 in 1992, 44-16 in 1993, 28-20 in 1994, and 35-11 in 1995 – producing one of the best four-year marks, topped only by a stretch in the late 80's.

Prior to her current teaching position, Parker Scanlon taught and coached at Wilber-Clatonia, Wahoo Bishop Neumann, Twin River, and Boys Town – all in Nebraska.

Parker Scanlon was inducted into the Peru State Hall of Fame on Oct. 22, 2016, as a member of the 25th class. She lives in Wahoo with her husband Ryan and their children Kristin, Isaiah, Olivia, and Ava. Parker Scanlon is a math teacher and head girls basketball coach at Mead High School.
